Alton

Consider the thriving market town of Alton for your conference or event. It has an eclectic mix of historical buildings, modern shops and busy markets. It was built around an ancient Saxon settlement and its most famous artefacts from this era can be found at town’s Curtis Museum.

Alton was once a favourite shopping destination of author Jane Austen and her sister Cassandra. Today its boutique shops and friendly cafes can be enjoyed at leisure, along with the farmers’ markets which take place every two weeks.

Visitors can hop on the Watercress Line steam railway which chugs its way from Alresford to Alton. Soak up ten miles of picturesque Hampshire countryside on a journey back in time. Other nearby attractions include Jane Austen’s House Museum, Chawton House Library and Gilbert White’s House and the Oates Collection.
